Hypnosis is well known to work wonders in banishing fears and phobias, giving one an added boost of confidence, or helping one “seize the day”.  But can hypnosis really do anything to help you drop those unwanted, and ultimately, unhealthy extra pounds?

Yes! Hypnosis is a naturally occurring phenomenon, one that happens to most people anywhere from 25-50 times a day.  But by actively engaging in a hypnosis session and purposefully focusing concentration on desired outcomes  (in this case, dropping unwanted pounds) even greater results can be achieved; results that can last a lifetime.

Weight reduction is one of the more difficult tasks most people will undertake. The issues that cause many people to put on extra weight are not only varied, but frequently relate back to childhood issues we are hardly conscious of as adults. By entering the hypnotic state, under the guidance of a trained, professional hypnotherapist, issues can be identified, negative triggers can be removed, and therapeutic suggestions can be introduced.

A recent article published by Consumer Reports on Health stated, studies have shown that adding hypnosis to a weight reduction program increases the chances for success.  Even over a period of time of up to 48 months later, “hypnotized patients lost more than double the amount of weight that patients lost in programs without a hypnosis component.” (1)

Hypnosis does not take the place of hard work and dedication in achieving goals. But in the hands of the client who desires real change, it provides a base, a support, and the added edge that may make all the difference when it comes time to step on the scale or slip into those designer jeans!

    Shawn,

    You make some great points in your post here. It is amazing how we hold on to things in our past that no longer serve us in the now. As children we took things on so differently in life. To view the same event as an adult gives us a whole new perspective on it. Most times we don’t even know what it is that we are hanging onto that is causing us to gain weight or hang onto that unwanted weight we already have. This is where a trained hypnotherapy has been a wonderful tool. To regress an individual to the events or phrases that holds them in this prison of being over weight and finding a way to gently move through it and release the event or become neutral about it. My experiences with you Shawn, I am sure you would be a wonderful Hypnotherapist for the job.
